Niche Marketing Strategy Secrets Revealed

There is a lot of buzz around niche marketing strategy right now. Ironically, niche marketing has become it’s own niche!

So what is a niche? How do you find one? What do you do with a niche once you find it? And how do you know if it’s the right niche once you find it?

Well those are big questions and arguably, each one is it’s own post. If you think about it each one could be it’s own e-book for that matter.

But let me take a shot at clarifying some important things that might help you, if niche marketing is something you are interested in.

First of all a niche is a smaller more focused “sub” market within a market. The are a couple of reasons niches are attractive to Internet marketers (or any marketers for that matter):

  • Potential customers who have taken the time to “drill down” into a niche are more likely to be interested in BUYING something than people who are searching in a broader market.  For example, someone looking for “electronics” could be looking for information on any one of a thousand things and is likely to be browsing for research rather than buying.  Someone searching for “Apple 16 GB Ipods”however is more likely to be buying and simply want to compare prices or colors.  Make sense?
  • Second, the number of competitors out there that are in that niche market are fewer and farther between and more likely to be smaller less sophisticated marketers that you can “outrank” with a little intelligence and time.  You can make money with less competition

With these two major factors in mind, how do you find one?  Well finding a niche and finding one you can compete in and make money selling in need to be looked at together.

The good thing is that if you do the upfront work properly, the implementation and maintenance of a niche website or “storefront” kind of takes care of it self.

Find a market where there are enough people willing to spend money on something that solves a problem or brings satisfaction or pleasure.  Determine that the competition is reasonable.  Then deliver the product in a professional and simple fashion at a reasonable price.

No problem right?

In the short space of a blog post there are some simple tips to share with you that will plug some holes in this broader plan.  Follow these rules and research further to find your niche and your niches content (domain name, posts, articles, categories and anchor text)

Keyword Research – Stick with terms and phrases that have more than 1000 “global monthly searches” in the Google Keyword Tool and fewer than 30,000 “exact phrase” matches in the Google search results.

Page Rank Analysis – Download and install the Firefox SEO Quake plug-in and learn to use it.  It’s easy.  Now plug each of your good keywords, one by one into the Google search window and turn on the plug-in.

In each of the top ten results look for “PR” in the plug-in results (this is page rank-a gauge of competitive advantage for that site).  Add the top 10 results and divide by 10.

If your average PR is under 3, move forward.  If it’s under 2, then do a back flip, shout out, and move forward :)

Obviously, there is a lot more to niche marketing strategy and building profitable niche websites, but most people who do these things are way ahead of the competition.
