Online Content Creation Made Easy

Consistent quality content creation for an online business owner can be a real challenge.

Have you ever sat around for an extended period of time and just not been able to produce anything?  Certainly nothing of value?  I know I certainly have!

Have you ever looked at some experienced online marketer or blogger’s content and thought, “How the hell can I compete with that”?

If you look at someone else’s work who has been doing this for a while, you could very easily be discouraged enough to give up right then and there.

Don’t worry!  You may not be able to “compete” right away, but if you slightly alter your mindset, you can blow right through the initial fear and start to accumulate quality content right away.

And that quality content will turn into quality online products very quickly too!

I think the keys to producing quality online content on a consistent basis are pretty obvious in hindsight, but when you are experiencing a “mental block” they don’t appear as obvious.

This article will hopefully prompt you to start building a library of reference material that you can call on when the time comes to create content and you are stuck for ideas.

It’s not so much about topics (although topics are important!) as it is about frame of mind and reference points.   Let me explain…

If you make the assumption that you are an “author”, (and you are if you want to create an online business) then your perspective needs to change when it comes to online content creation.

It’s no longer about writing an article, posting to your blog or creating a video.  It’s about building each piece of content with a bigger picture in mind.

Whether you outsource this function or do it yourself doesn’t matter.  You need to think about content creation like this;

Every sentence is the potential title for an article.  Every article is the potential chapter of your e-book.  Every post is the potential script for your audio or video.

Creating content from “scratch” is almost unnecessary because we all have stories related to our vocation and life experiences before we even start writing.

Even if you are starting in a niche that you are new to (in which case you need to expect that research is your first step anyway), you start taking notes, making daily journal entries or writing posts/articles.  If you keep this “reference library” mentality, you will quickly discover that yours is a body of work that will evolve and you will create opportunities to take a simple article and turn it into an entire e-book or an e-course.

In order for this strategy to work, you need to develop a system of folders to capture your pieces of content in an organized fashion so you can dip into certain files in certain categories when you are writing on certain topics.

If these folders are the sum of all your notes, chicken scratch, articles, etc… then you shouldn’t ever have to “start from scratch”

This idea of recreating from previous works is often called “repurposing content”.  This is the lifeblood of most successful online marketers and there is no reason you can’t do it too.

Repurposed works often get released as “2.o”, “3.0″, “Revised Edition 2011″, “Version 3″. etc…  Because things change so rapidly in online marketing, these “revisions” are welcomed and even anticipated by your readers, especially if the original was good.

In summary and for example, just take this brief article and see how many related “topics” you could either “repurpose” or expand upon to make additional content:

  • Content creation video script
  • Motivation
  • Blogging topics
  • Video creation using articles
  • Audio creation using blog posts
  • E-book creation
  • Niche research
  • How to stay organized with your content
  • Repurposing content for fast profits
  • ………

So you can see how the act of writing a simple article can lead to multiple other ideas and opportunities for additional content if you just alter you awareness of what you are doing.

This doesn’t even take into account that your content could be posted to multiple different sites or “syndicated” by other site owners for their audiences.

Are you simply writing an article, or are you doing something much bigger than that?

My contention is that each sentence you compose should lead you to at least one new topic or content idea.  This way, your library will get bigger much quicker and that big intimidating competitor becomes your peer much sooner than later.

Just start writing and do it every day and you will be amazed how quickly you develop a “body of work”
