Copywriting 101

I guarantee that you will write effective sales copy for your internet marketing business (or any business for that matter!) if you read and follow this advice

I will give you 20 tips on writing sales copy and 10 triggers that every potential customer will respond to if you focus on at least one of them in your sales copy.

First, the 10 Killer Copywriting Tips

  1. Focus on your core audience’s SINGLE biggest problem.  Don’t try and address more than one problem even though there may be more than one.  This will only distract your reader from your intended message
  2. Attract the reader to your message with a compelling question at the beginning of your copy.  Questions trigger curiosity and make the reader want to continue to get the answer.  Something like, “Are you tired of…”
  3. Solicit empathy from your reader by telling your own personal story about your frustration with the same issue.  For example, you were overweight and you are selling a solution to being overweight…what you felt like…
  4. Tell your story about when the bell went off for you.  Killer copywriting always includes a personal story about the moment you figured it all out.
  5. Here is where you want to begin to introduce your solution.  Whether it’s a product or a solution, this the place and time to introduce your phenomenal answer to the problem.
  6. Explain how and why your solution will work for them on a personal level.  It often helps to bring yourself into the picture again.  If an overweight…like me can do it…
  7. Create a mental image in your readers mind by getting them to visualize what things are going to be like once their problem is solved.  …no more embarrassing moments…women will look at you, not away from you…
  8. Explain why your solution is either different or better than your competitors.  You don’t need to do both, but if you can, make sure you do.
  9. Take away any remaining doubts and all risk by offering some form of guarantee.  The longer the better
  10. This is the one that a lot of writers forget.  Tell them in very specific fashion how to buy your solution.  DON’T ASSUME.  It would be a major waste to do all the other work and miss this step.

Now you have all the important steps involved in the art of killer copywriting.  What seminal human trigger do you want your message to focus on?

I’m sure there are others but with this list you have most of your bases covered.  Make your message address one or more of these and you have compelling copy.

  • Greed
  • Improved health or longevity
